Create a list of words and phrases that are unique to your business
These words or phrases will be the keyword used to put your site at the top of the results page. You need to use descriptive terms that your customers use to describe your business. Once you have done this you can go to WordTracker to determine how effective these terms are likely to be.
Unique descriptions

Choose keywords wisely
The keywords you think might be perfect for your site may not be what people are actually searching for. The words you choose must be relevant to your business and relevant to how it is perceived by your current/future customers. To find the optimal keywords for your site, use tools such as WordTracker. Choose two or three highly targeted phrases for each page of your site. Using keywords such as "low price" or "best service" or other generic words is a waste of time. Get specific.

Write a 250 word description of your business using your keywords
This is the crucial component to high rankings and a successful Web site. You will use the words and phrases created in this description throughout your site. The search engines need to "read" keyword rich copy on your pages so they can successfully classify your site. Use each keyword phrase numerous times within your copy for best results. Keyword repetition is crucial.
....Just to be clear
....THIS IS THE MOST CRUCIAL COMPONENT!

Create a Title tag
Title tags are critical because they're given a lot of weight with most all of the search engines except Google. Google puts more weight on the keywords in the description. This is why you need to write the 250 word description. It's this combination that will get you widely noticed. Look at the top of this page and you will see "SEO Keywords - 9 Tips for getting started". This is the title tag. You must put your keywords into this tag and not waste space with extra words. On our homepage we use "Affordable easy to use e-business". The keywords are 'affordable' & 'easy to use'. This is how our clients have described us.
Do a search using Google, Yahoo, Ask , etc
Search the phrase "affordable ebusiness"
Copy the phrase using the quotation marks. Notice where StradaModa is listed.
**A search trick is to use quotation marks around a phrase. You will get more relevant results for your search. This is how we found all the information in our SEO guide. If we did not use this trick we would still be searching.

Use extra "goodies" to boost rankings
Things like headlines, image alt tags, header tags <H1><H2>, etc.), links from other pages, keywords in file names, and keywords in hyperlinks can cumulatively boost search engine rankings. Use any or all of these where they make sense for your site. These items are what we include throughout our clients sites. We do the initial work, then give our clients total access to all this information and the ability to easily update it themselves.

Don't expect quick results
Getting high rankings takes time; there's no getting around that fact. Once your site is added to a search engine or directory, its ranking may start out low and then slowly work its way up the ladder. Some search engines measure "click-through popularity," i.e., the more people that click on a particular site, the higher its ranking will go. Be patient and give your site time to mature.

Don't constantly "tweak" your entire site for better results
It's best not to make changes throughout your entire site for 60-90 days after submission. It often takes the engines at least that long to add your optimized pages to their databases. It's acceptable to update individual pages, but after updating and submission leave it alone for a while. Try different descriptions on different pages as this will give you a broader picture what is working best for you.

READ THIS............IT"S IMPORTANT!!!!!!!!!
If you've followed these tips and still can't find your site in the engines, the first place to "tweak" would be your page copy. If you added less than 250 words of visible text on your pages, this is probably your culprit. Also, double check your keyword density, and make sure that you only targeted two or three phrases per page. Eventually, you'll see the fruits of your labor with many top ten rankings in Google and the rest of the search engines!
